Youth Leadership Fellowship

The Youth Leadership Fellowship is an opportunity for a recent high school or college graduate to join the Jane Goodall Institute staff for a dynamic and inspiring experience working at the forefront of youth leadership, service learning and conservation.

Throughout their experience, Fellows:
  • Contribute ideas, inspiration and enthusiasm to the ongoing development of Roots & Shoots initiatives,
  • Engage youth and adult leaders in starting Roots & Shoots projects in their communities, and
  • Gain valuable skills useful for their future endevors as leaders and change-makers.

Youth Voice and the History of the Fellowship

Started in 2005, the Youth Leadership Fellowship recognizes the importance of youth voice. The Jane Goodall Institute strives to make Roots & Shoots, youth led and youth driven, and through the Fellowship, the Institute can make that happen.

Previous fellows accomplishments are as diverse as their backgrounds. Coming from all over the U.S. each fellow has a unique experience, shaped by their interest, and the energy and passion of the Roots & Shoots network.

Adrienne Bermingham, 2011-12 Fellow

A recent graduate of Canisius College where she majored in political science, and also studied anthrozoology and zoo biology, Adrienne Bermingham brings a wealth of knowledge about the environment, conservation and world issues to Roots & Shoots.

Starting in September, Adrienne is leading efforts to launch the next Global Youth Campaign, One Million Hours of Service, representing Roots & Shoots at conferences around the country, and blogging about her experiences.
