Youth Leadership Fellow

Adrienne B

Adrienne Mae Bermingham, 2011-2012 Fellow

Adrienne Bermingham was selected by the Jane Goodall Institute and Dr. Jane Goodall to serve as the 2011-2012 Youth Leadership Fellow and to support the Institute's environmental and humanitarian youth program, Jane Goodall's Roots & Shoots. Adrienne travels around the United States and abroad helping spread Dr. Goodall's hopeful message that young people, when given the tools and motivation, can indeed change the world. Through presentations, workshops and trainings, Adrienne is helping the Jane Goodall Institute inspire and engage the next generation.

In addition to her outreach work around the globe, Adrienne also helps mentor the Roots & Shoots Youth Leadership Council. With the members of the Council, Adrienne was responsible for launching the 2011 Youth Campaign, One Million Hours of Service, and is helping to plan the next campaign to be launched in the fall of 2012.

As the 2011-12 Roots & Shoots Youth Leadership Fellow, Adrienne is also serving as a Youth NGO Representative to the United Nations for the Jane Goodall Institute.

Adrienne graduated cum laude from Canisius College in Buffalo, N.Y. with a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science and minors in anthrozoology and zoo biology. While at Canisius, she honed her skills in public speaking and community engagement through the development of conservation public service announcements and educational web videos with the Canisius Ambassadors for Conservation.

As a speaker, Adrienne often talks about the power of youth leadership, and the role that young people have played—and are playing— to improve the environment, and raise the quality of life for people and animals.  With amazing stories about members of Jane Goodall’s Roots & Shoots from around the globe, Adrienne’s presentations are always inspiring and motivational.

"Adrienne's presentations are fueled by her heart. She cares deeply about the vulnerability of this world, and after hearing her speak, you will believe that you should care the way she does."

Professor Michael V. Haselswerdt,
Political Science, Canisius College
