Our Councils
The Roots & Shoots Youth Leadership Councils currently consist of individuals ages 14-24. The Youth Leadership Councils meet monthly (either in person or over the phone), initiate projects, work on youth-driven campaigns and provide support for Roots & Shoots groups in their regions.
In addition, council members attend an annual training retreat (see slide show below) and have the opportunity to participate in a Youth Immersion Experience in Tanzania, which is organized in partnership with Global Explorers.
National Youth Leadership Council
The National Youth Leadership Council (NYLC) is comprised of Youth Leaders from across the nation. The NYLC is staffed by two representatives from each of the regional councils and the CLC. In addition, the NYLC reserves "At Large" seats for exceptional youth who are not geographically associated with a region.
The NYLC is an advisory council that supports Roots & Shoots by acting as a liaison among councils. In addition, the NYLC is able to support areas of the country where we do not currently have regional offices. The Youth Leaders from the NYLC act as representatives and speakers for Roots & Shoots at national events or conferences.
Regional Youth Leadership Councils
Each regional council is comprised of approximately 10 Youth Leaders who live within a region served by a Roots & Shoots regional office. The Youth Leaders are selected through an application process led by their regional office.
Council members have the opportunity to travel to regional, national and international events, team up with R&S groups in their area and around the world, build on individual goals and make new friends.

College Leadership Council
The College Leadership Council (CLC) is comprised of up to 12 College Leaders from colleges and universities across the United States. These College Leaders help us support our network of college Roots & Shoots groups.
CLC members are given the opportunity to travel to regional, national and international events, team up with R&S groups in their area and around the world, build on individual goals and make new friends.
