Earth Day 2011-One Billion Acts of Green

Earth Day
Image from Earth Day Network
A celebration of the planet and a call to action, Earth Day is one of the largest civic events in the world, with almost one billion people participating in activities each year.

The first Earth Day was celebrated in 1970. After more than 40 years, in 2011, Earth Day has a critical mass of people supporting the celebration, and this year we're hoping to gather One Billion Acts of Green!

Roots & Shoots members - who never need an excuse to get out and take action – celebrate Earth Day through projects that give back to the environment and improve life for the humans and animals that live there.  Join members this year and plan your own Earth Day project!

Get Involved

Roots & Shoots members are never short of very creative ideas for celebrating Earth Day with projects for people, animals or the environment. Visit the Get Involved page to read some stories of projects that Roots & Shoots members have completed in previous years.

A great way to support Earth Day this year is to participate in On the Edge: Hope for Animals and Their World, the current youth campaign of Jane Goodall's Roots & Shoots. Learn more about the campaign, and join today! Pledge to do a PSA for an endangered species, and add it to the One Billion Acts of Green!
