Campaign for Endangered Species and Biodiversity

Raise Awareness

1. Public Service Announcements

In the world today, we can reach so many people through the power of digital media, such as pictures and videos. Now it is your chance. With the information you’ve learned about your species, your fact sheet and the photos you’ve gathered, you're ready to create your own video.

With your video you can tell the story of your species, what your group is doing to help them and how your community can help you. Use the "How to Make a PSA Guide" as a helpful resource to get you started. For inspirational and informational content about endangered species visit ARKive.org.

Watch some of our sample PSAs created by the members of our Youth Leadership Councils.

Make sure to share your PSA with us when it’s finished. Upload your PSA to YouTube or Vimeo, complete a project report, and share the URL there. We’ll review the videos and include them on the Roots & Shoots website if they meet the following criteria:

  • Contain only appropriate language and images for youth;
  • Use license or royalty free music that the makers own; and
  • Are between 60 - 90 seconds in length.

In the spring of 2011, four videos will be eligible for a $250.00 mini-grant in our On the Edge Video Contest. Stay tuned for more information soon!

2. Public Presentations

Presentations are a great way to help people understand basic facts about your species and what their conservation status means. This increases the chances that they will be excited to accept the invitation to join you in protecting the species.

With your group, think about how you can bring all of the resources you’ve developed to your community, and write down a list of people you’d like to speak with about your species.

Here are some ideas for possible places you might give a presentation:

  • In your classroom, or at a school assembly
  • To a group of teachers or administrators
  • At a local church, or other religious community
  • At your local library, museum or zoo

Decide where you want to give your presentations, and use the templates below to plan what you’d like to say! Make sure you use your fact sheet, and most importantly your PSA.
