Campus Progress -- Following the lead of China's government, other organizations have taken it upon themselves to join in the re-planting of China's forests. One such effort is the Million Tree Project, an endeavor of Shanghai's branch of Roots & Shoots, activist Jane Goodall's worldwide environmental and humanitarian organization.

Everyday Roots & Shoots groups are taking action to improve their local environments, and make the world a better place for people and animals.

Arlington, Virginia¿July 14, 2010, marks a monumental milestone for the Jane Goodall Institute (JGI) and its founder, Dr. Jane Goodall, DBE.  Fifty years ago, Goodall, who is today a world-renowned primatologist, conservationist and UN Messenger of Peace, first set foot on the shores of Lake Tanganyika, in what is now Tanzania's Gombe National Park.

After the great success of Hope for Animals and their World, Dr. Jane is already working on her next book! In her next work Dr. Jane wants to write about endangered plants and trees and how all conservation efforts circle back to the protecting and restoring them.

Roots & Shoots is excited to announce the June 21st Global Launch of WE - a new campaign organized by We, The World. The WE campaign promotes a shift from "I" to "WE" in our individual attitudes and actions, and in our societal priorities and policies. The WE Campaign is building a base of support from people around the world including visionary leaders such as Dr. Jane, who made a special video for WE.

This summer, members of Jane Goodall's Roots & Shoots from around Asia and Australia will gather for the first time to meet one another, and learn about how they can make a difference in their communities for people, animals and the environment.

The Boerne Star -- During the first part of 2010, Boerne teen Madison Albrecht was not just busy boosting Girl Scout cookie sales, but for the third year, she was ensuring that those cookies would bring pleasure to Air Force personnel around the world.

Wiked Local Cambridge -- Martin Luther King had a dream of peace, Jane Goodall had a dream to study animals, and the kids in the Sprouts of Hope group have a dream of cutting waste at the King Open School.

Shanghaiist -- Earlier this year, we brought you the news that Shanghai's youth values are turning a shade greener, with ever increasing awareness of and activism in China's environmental movement. This is thanks in part to the expansion of NGOs in China. We went along to meet Tori Zwisler, the executive director of Shanghai Roots & Shoots, . . . to see how her organisation is educating and empowering the city's youth.

Northern News -- A group of students from Kirkland Lake spent much of this past weekend experiencing, for a short time, what millions of people across the planet experience every day.

The students, from KLDCS' Roots & Shoots club as well as Kirkland Lake Interact, participated in their annual 30-hour famine.
