Calgary Herald Ottawa, Ontario, Canada Fontaine was speaking at a news conference on Parliament Hill to announce a new partnership between Goodall's institute and the Assembly of First Nations that will bring her Roots & Shoots program to First Nation communities across Canada. Roots & Shoots projects focus on the environment, culture and improving life in communities. Fontaine said projects have included planting trees and community gardens, recycling programs and promoting peace. The projects are decided by the youth involved in the program. "We see Roots & Shoots not only as a source of inspiration for our young people, but as another important ally in our main objective, which is to eradicate First Nations poverty by empowering the young people as the engine of solutions and change in our communities," he said.
