This holiday season students from the Prairie Crossing Charter School Roots & Shoots Group in Grayslake, IL worked to give toys a second chance. The group gathered toys during the month of December and donated them to Second Chance Toys. Second Chance Toys is a community-based initiative which rescues unwanted plastic toys that are gently used and distributes them to children in need through local community organizations, while at the same time, helping the environment. Thanks to groups, like Prairie Crossing Charter School Roots & Shoots Group, from the community, the organization was able to rescue and donate nearly 10,000 toys for children in need this past holiday season. This year’s recipient of the toys was the Head Start program affiliated with Community Action Partnership (CAP) in Waukegan. If your Roots & Shoots group is interested in getting involved with Second Chance Toys their next toy drive is during Earth Week 2010! |
