The Roots & Shoots New England Regional Office is excited to announce the addition of their newest staff member, Sally Sharp Lehman! In the newly created position of New England Regional Director, Sally will lead the region in growth, fundraising and strategic partnerships. "We are delighted to have someone of Sally's talents and experience join the New England Roots & Shoots team," said Betsy McWhirt, Roots & Shoots National Director. "She brings a wealth of knowledge about working with young people and how to spark interest in Roots & Shoots across the region." Experienced in both the for-profit and non-profit sector, Sally comes to Roots & Shoots from the Massachusetts Audubon Society, where she served for eight years as regional director for southeastern Massachusetts. Sally feels privileged to join Roots & Shoots and the Jane Goodall Institute. "I am so excited about the potential for Roots & Shoots in New England," Sally said, "and I'm looking forward to the opportunity to build and leverage partnerships with other organizations so that even more young people can get involved in projects to make a difference on both a local and a global scale." It's not surprising that Sally has ended up with Roots & Shoots. She has a passion for the outdoors, a strong background in educational issues and a love of children—two of whom include her sons: Will, 14 and Chris, 17. "Now, possibly more than ever, our world is crying out for a sense of hope and a need to be connected with one another," Sally said. "Roots & Shoots can help empower our youth to have hope, to believe that every individual can make a difference and to feel what it means to be a part of a truly global community." Sally holds a master's degree in management from the Kellogg Graduate School of Management at Northwestern University and a Bachelor of Arts degree in economics and French from Duke University. "I'm confident that Sally and the entire New England team will take Roots & Shoots to new heights," Betsy said. "It's all about working with kids," Sally said. "It's all about the future."
