The Brosnans Fly a Giant Peace Dove!

Roots & Shoots Day of Peace
SEPTEMBER 21, 2008
Each year, in support of the United Nations International Day of Peace, Roots & Shoots members and friends come together to promote peace. All over the world, young people craft Giant Peace Dove Puppets from reused materials and fly the Doves in their communities. This year, Giant Peace Dove Puppets flew in major cities all over the world, including:

Amsterdam, the Netherlands                  Helsinski, Finland
Barcelona, Spain Kathmandu, Nepal
Beijing, China Los Angeles, USA
Boston, USA London, England
Buenos Aries, Argentina New York City, USA
Chicago, USA Phuket, Thailand
Dar es Salaam, Tanzania Toronto, Canada

And the Dove reports are still coming in! Submit your story and images by November 14!

Hollywood celebrities joined the Day of Peace festivities at Griffith Park in Los Angeles, California.

Pierce and Keely Brosnan marched in the Giant Peace Dove Puppet parade and delivered the keynote address. Gavin Rossdale and Gwen Stefani showed up with their son, Kingston. Gavin, Cord and Rami Jaffe from Foo Fighters provided music throughout the afternoon.

WoodallOn September 19, Dr. Jane, a United Nations Messenger of Peace and Roots & Shoots youth representatives spoke at the United Nations Headquarters in New York City for the 2008 International Day of Peace Student Observance. Roots & Shoots College Leadership Council member Emily Woodall from Asheville, North Carolina, represented Roots & Shoots with a speech at the United Nations Headquarters in New York City on September 19, 2008 for the UN International Day of Peace. Emily will be a recipient of the 2008 Jane Goodall Youth Leadership Award. Read her speech.
