The Problem

Our congregation's children and their families make valued connections with their community through gardening and environmental awareness projects.

Our Plan

Enable the children and their families to share their gardening efforts with the local community (be it insect or human!) by providing vegetables, herbs and spices. We are building our second garden box, made from salvaged resources like wood pallets. The design and inspiration came from the website: http://foodisfreeproject.org/ Constructing and maintaining these garden boxes improves the environment and exposes the children to gardening skills and new foods for health. May also be an opportunity to spotlight certain herbs, spices or plants to educate children about other cultures (through cuisine or other cultural traditions) - building bridges between cultures. To quote Ralph Waldo Emerson "To leave the world a bit better, whether by a healthy child, a garden patch or a redeemed social condition."
