The Problem

At Garden School Foundation we implement healthy eating habits and urban farming education to children K-5th grade. Our programs strive to reach not only school age children but their families as well. Through our monthly community garden days, we offer the community an opportunity to engage in service learning activities that assist in maintaining the garden space, while teaching families how to grow their own food and cook it. Our wish for this project is to not only provide a safe space for youth to explore but to empower our families and community through mindful learning and exposure. We hope to expand the opportunities for those that visit 24th Street Elementary's garden and offer workshops that encourage sustainable habits and practices.

Our Plan

Our community garden days will take place every 3rd Saturday of each month. The funding provided by this Roots and Shoots grant will help in cleaning up part of the 24th Street Garden. With this funding, we will purchase materials needed to prepare a section of the garden so that students can plant winter crops.
