Compost Awareness

The Problem

Santa Monica High School has a population of around 3,000 students. This high population results in high amounts of food waste, some of which is completely compostable! Our goal is to spread awareness on the benefits of compost bins to our classmate peers and implement food waste bins within our campus.

Our Plan

In order to successfully reach our desired goal, much effort will have to be put forth! We will start by educating ourselves on the composting basics and school regulations on waste. After researching, we will communicate with appropriate school staff to educate them about the purpose of our project. Next, we intend on setting specified days dedicated to putting out collection buckets during lunch to assist and educate school peers on how to separate waste (compost, recycling, waste) in an interactive and compelling way to ensure full captivation and involvement in composting.
