The Problem

We wish to compost food leftovers to reduce waste in the school. We will use the compost to enrich the soil for a community vegetable garden to provide fresh produce for students in the school and families in the community.

Our Plan

Students will learn about healthy eating and what vegetables need to grow strong. They will learn about vermicomposting and we will have a vermicomposter in the classroom (our classroom pets). The liquid and soil from the composter will be used to enrich soil to grow fresh vegetables in the spring. We will start the plants in our classroom and transplant them when the weather gets warmer. The vegetables grown will be available to the students at school and to families in the community.
