The Problem

My wish for this project is to reduce the roadside litter epidemic in my community. Now that spring has arrived, the litter problem is more visible and concerning than before. Waterways in my neighborhood are filled with aluminum cans, water bottles, fast food wrappers, and more. The wild animals, water, trees and plants in our community are becoming threatened by the invasive litter. I am motivated to present my community with a solution to this problem, and to engage residents in the process.

Our Plan

I have divided this project's action plan into six steps: 1. Responsibly dispose of roadside litter while also tracking litter-data using the Litterati app (www.litterati.org) 2. Create a poster including the collected litter-data, reasons to pick up litter and suggestions on how to keep the community clean 3. Publicly display poster at the town library, schools, senior center, etc. as a method to raise awareness about the problem 4. Seek town consent to distribute government cans along official walking trails 5. (Upon successful completion of Step 4.) Fundraise for government cans to be distributed along official walking trails 6. Publicly promote ways to keep Rehoboth Litter-Free (Example: Host an event at the public library, create a website and social media pages, host a public lecture about the project and its success)
