crisis! We are teaming up with the non-profit organization Thirst Project to help educate our college community about what is going on in the world. We are taking a sustainability graduate class as a group and our working to raise awareness as well as funds to help build wells over seas. We are presenting around campus to different classes and clubs. We are also having the organization come and represent their work through a 45 minute presentation held on campus. We are hoping to use funding to help purchase refreshments to encourage attendance. We are also looking to use the funds for fundraising and soliciting materials such as flyers and fact handouts. Our end goal is to raise $12,000 through the CSUN community to help fully fund a well in Swaziland with the help of Thirst Project's resources.

Part 1) WASTE AUDIT Our Waste Audit Team will be collecting information about the amount of plastic generated by our community's boba stores. Because there are currently no statistics surrounding this topic, we will be releasing the results to the Bay Area and our city's government. This will also help us determine the impact of our project as we can compare "before" and "after". Part 2) APPEALS Our Appeals Team will then go back around to the stores and explain our project. According to Alameda's new food ordinance law, boba stores are technically breaking the law by providing plastic straws regardless of whether customers request them or not. We have talked over our project with Alameda City's Department of Public Health. If these boba stores agree to endorse our reusable boba containers and offer discounts for those that bring them in, we will allow them an extension of time to change out their plastic straws into renewable options. (We don't want to hurt their business as they ARE all members of our community as well.) Part 2) BUDGETING/OUTREACH We will be selling reusable boba containers and stainless steel straws to high school students during a publicised lunch event. These will be sold at a low price as to be affordable for all students. RethinkDisposable will help us procure these items. Part 3) MAKING IT HIP What we envision is that these cool-looking new boba containers will become the new "Hydroflask". We are planning to get everyone on this bandwagon. Additionally, thanks to our waste audit, we'll be able to measure our impact efficiently. We're very excited to see what happens!

We will be going around to different places and events, teaching kids what to do in these situations. To begin, as we must start small, we will be teaching them how to make a water filtration straw. We will also be asking for donations, in order to create donation kits for homeless shelters. This incorporates the idea that they do not have power, and we will be helping them along with educating children.

Our project will connect our neighborhood children to the local wildlife, landscape, plant species and water resources. It will also allow our neighborhood children to connect with local experts and hopefully work directly with them on activities such as planting in our community garden and keeping our local bike path beautiful.

We are starting a 2 week environmental leadership summer program for teens in North Florida. They will explore North Florida's wild places- from our springs to our swamps- on fun educational adventures, restoring them by working alongside the Alachua Conservation Trust NGO on hands-on conservation projects from planting longleaf pine trees to maintaining nature trails, and become leaders for them through workshops on leadership and careers in the environment. It will be affordable and aimed towards students from a wide range of backgrounds. See our website and apply at: https://www.walkforwildflorida.org/young-leaders-for-wild-florida

Roots & Shoots at CNU will work with the Newport News Master Gardner's to plan and plant a new riparian buffer at Causey's Mill on the edge of Lake Maury. School-groups and community members will be invited to help with the project to raise awareness of runoff problems. Signs will be posted on the property so all visitors will be able to learn about the riparian buffer, and how riparian buffers can be created on their own properties.
