This garden will not only beautify the school, but will serve as a classroom for those studying plants, bees, butterflies, and local history.
The Story of Connection: Korogonas Ark, a sustainable, creative, spiritual, educational community towards Changing the Game
Holistic learning tools and experiential educational methods are invested in our work. We invite people and groups of every age and walk of life to participate in workshops, trainings, retreats, volunteering schemes, outreach programmes, festivals, community gatherings and experience the power and inspiration of living in Unity with the Self, Nature and co-humans attuned to the truth, joy and generosity. "Korogonas Ark" constitutes an initiative which listens to the call of our era and responds to it: low eco-print, plant-based whole-food, empathy, inner peace, self-knowledge techniques, respect to every manifestation of life upon mother Earth, peaceful activism, community building (singing, circles, action, education, communication). Please join our FB group page "Korogonas Ark"
The Children's Peaceful Garden project is underway and will continue this spring to be added to and grow more edible and perennial fruits, flowers, herbs, and vegetables, add native, shade-loving plants to our greenroof chicken coop, improve our low-wind generation system and seesaw pump, add to our apiary and bee sanctuary, upgrade our composting operations, install another rain barrel and more drip irrigation, all to demonstrate and teach children how to conserve water and energy, what it means to have a zero carbon footprint, and why to make healthy choices by eating local, organic, and sustainable.
we hope to educate the community , celebrate our culture and diversity. We want to help make food affordable and accessible to the families we serve. We want to be wise stewards of the ecosystem with the help of our students and community members.
Key plans: 1. Videos on exploitation of natural resources, Veganism and environment. 2. Outreach by leafletting about the ecological destruction of animal factory farming. 3. Speak about the important changes that we need to bring in the environment - in colleges and schools.
Our small group has offered our time every other Saturday morning, during the Spring/Summer/Autumn for a few hours of our to work on the farm. Weeding, harvesting, & anything else they may need help with. We did it last year & can't wait to get started again! The farm will be having an Earth Day Pot luck as well... & it'll be so exciting to use some of this years beautiful produce to make a meal to share. :-)
I plan to first go to schools and talk to teachers and students about my hopes for this project and ask if they are interested in helping me. All of their talents could help, anything at all. My project will focus on smaller issues like recycling in schools and food waste, and bottle/can waste from parties is a huge issue overlooked among teenagers as well. I want to bring it to their attention and speak with the teachers. I also hope to discuss the possibilities of a "Gap Year" after high school while I have the chance and student's attention. I would like our community post offices to be thorough with recycling, different blanket/food drives for local SCPAS and promotion of community wide organic food. This project is most of all about making others aware of their impression on the world, and even more so, to guide them to care about their impression too.
