My project will raise money through lemonade stands and art sales and we will sell the things we don't need any more, clothes. old toys and books. I am a pescatarian who hopes to raise focus on animal rights and create a smaller carbon footprint. By decreasing our dependence on animal protein, by becoming a steward of the environment and wildlife, I hope to help stop deforestation and decrease the amount of carbon being released into the atmosphere.
The children will attain a recipe for the treats from the sanctuary and bake special healthy treats for the farm animals in February. They will take a field trip to the sanctuary and feed some to the 50 or more injured farm animals, and tour their facility. This close up interaction with the animals, as well as the information learned on the tour will teach the children more about the value of domesticated animals. The children will learn the needs of animals are similar to their own.
It will provide food and shelter for birds during cold days. We are going to be using basic tools and wood for the house.
Our scholars and volunteers will be walking/running for a cause! We will walk/run for one mile around the neighborhood and at the end of the event, our scholars will be able to throw color dust on themselves, their friends and teachers! Scholars will be paying to walk/run, however there will be expenses such as water, color dust, t'shirts and snacks.

The children's gardens at Kids Express are producing a good harvest this summer and the children are raising money to "adopt" a goat by selling some of their produce to families at Kids Express Learning Center. The children ages 4-8 will hold weekly mini farmers markets on the school grounds. The hope is to raise $120.00 for the price of a goat through Heifer International. We have held several farmers markets already this summer and expect to earn the money by the end of the month of September. The children will name the goat and receive email updates about where the goat was placed. Additionally, Heifer International's website provides information about goats and a picture of their sponsored goat.
I am creating awareness through art work , a picture says more than thousands of words
I have included photos that I find from other sources like PETA and Vegan Alliance. I believe if people know this information they will make more informed decisions and not purchase foods with these products. Who knew that while eating Parmesan Cheese, one was actually eating a baby cow's stomach? And if we saw how badly some of our animals were being treated, it would move others to not eat them at all or at the very least fight for better care.
We believe that it is imperative for us to teach students about the importance of giving back to their community. We believe that students benefit from learning and being exposed to many different kinds of experiences and activities. It is through these activities that they find that their actions have a direct impact on themselves, their families, their community and the world. This year, students will be tasked with creating dog toys, cat toys, dog treats and bed that will be donated to our many local pet shelters. In addition, we will be holding a pet food drive with all items also donated to local shelters and rescue facilities.
My Roots & Shoots Club will hold a school-wide event inviting students and staff to come bake the treats for the shelter animals together after school while also raising awareness for the easy and fun ways to support animals in finding their forever homes in adoption centers.
