We will plant an aromatic garden this summer. The location is a path that many schoolchildren use to walk to school each day. The hope is to have a beautiful surprise for everyone to see and enjoy when they return to school in September. We will add a hammock/swing between the two trees, eye catching trinkets, sparklies, painted rocks and more in the 'fairy garden' tradition.

The profit from this will be used to buy the everyday necessities, which we have, for people around the world. We are collecting the Gratitude of the people who are lucky enough to have the things that they have and transferring them into supplies for people who do not have the things that they need through the World Vision organization website.

Hawlemont's playground is the only public park in the town. We having been working over the past few years to add gardens and fruit trees for the town's enjoyment. The gardens and trees not only beautify the park but add healthy fruits and vegetables for the community to enjoy. We are hoping to be able to plant several more fruit trees and continue to add and enhance our gardens. This year we would like to plant 5 new fruit trees and add a raised bed for a tomato garden on the side of our barn.

Our garden was flourishing last year. The children were very excited to share in the Harvest as well as all of the work that needed doing to keep the garden healthy. I would love to replicate that experience again this year. Anyone that visits our school can see our beautification first hand.

Students will be working in groups to learn more about hydroponics, the nonprofit SEED, and ways that learning Arduino-hydroponics farming techniques might help urban communities like South LA. As this is our first year working on the project, we will start small--by installing small hydroponics systems with Arduino sensors in a small community garden. We hope that this will impact students by helping them make a difference within their own communities and help develop advocacy skills around food justice issues. We were inspired by the work by Steven Ritz, founder of the Green Bronx Machine in the South Bronx, NYC.

I would like to hold a community clean up event on a Saturday as well as ask for tool donations. We will need to fertilize the soil in preparation for planting. We will plant seasonal vegetables that the students can grow, harvest, and eat. I live close to the school so I can look after the garden during long breaks. There are many fellow staff members willing to help and my class will be in charge of the area.

The Barr Middle School project will teach students about plants, insects, and growing vegetables. Students are planning the layout of the garden, the kind of plants they will use, preparing a proposal to submit, and raising money to fund the project. Step two will be to purchase plants, prepare soil, and plant the garden. Students will set up a schedule for summer care.

Crane Park Demonstration Garden is an educational environmental project about pollinators, native plants, and urban farming. The garden features more than 600 plants and 65 species of natives. Also includes four raised beds to grow vegetables organically. The garden will have permanent educational seasonal signs explaining the relationship between plants and pollinators as well as the importance of urban wildlife habitats.
