October 2017: Planting Trees in and around our food chain, community - Helping Pollinators November 2017: Thanksgiving Food Donation (We helped 4 school Families - 2 with turkeys and sides and 3 with sides) December and January 2017 & 2018: Letters to Active US Sailors and Care Package, Letters and Stockings to our "Adopted" Platoon, Donation to Mission K 9 Rescue
We will research recipes for dog treats and purchase materials using club funds. We will then bake the treats and drop them off with a local animal shelter.
My initial goals for the project are to identify the key issues that prevent peaceful resolution to human conflict.
Transformation of the communities
This is an on-going project, but we wanted it to be our Community Service for December and January. The mom of one of my students is a sailor on the USS Dwight D. Eisenhower Aircraft Carrier. In addition to our K 9 donation, we are writing letters to Ms. Walcott, her sailor friends and sending a large care package for Christmas. These activities will span during December 2017 and January 2018.
We will build a community and friendships by visiting each other schools and planning fun events together with the children of the special needs Pink Crocodile school and charity.
We will meet at the Clinton Children’s Library and have grief specialists on hand as we create art with children in hospice as a means to work through some of the unbearable pain they are experiencing. We’ll also play and interact with them and their parents as they work through some very emotionally tough issues. The kids will have opportunities to express themselves by creating their own projects that deal with nature, animals, or something they feel passionate about.

Each child will create a scrapbook that will feature their responses to all activities with photos, articles, essays, reflections, art work, responses to world-current events & what's going on in their own communities, book reviews and much more. They will invite the public to respond to their blog posts, videos, psa's and hopefully, receive responses to their letter writing campaigns and petitions. They will continually self assess their learning with frequent personal reflections, partner activities and Socratic Seminar style class discussions that will take place throughout the process.
The Taft High School Drumline will hold a series of music and rhythm holiday performance to spread good cheers and benefit the neighborhood community near William Howard Taft High School, a diverse, Title I-funding eligible public school in the Los Angeles Unified School District. The programs will be lead by music and rhythm leaders who are experienced with marching band or ensemble drumming. Participants are youths and senior citizens and will number from 40-50 each session.
