An activity to explore their skills at identifying snake species. An interaction consisting of many questions, in order to learn what they know. Then an exchange of knowledge by teaching them about proper identification and treatment for envenomations.

The experiences are held in rain and sunshine, mountains and forests, river waters and waterfall, oceans and seas where the children get to experience all possible flavours of nature. Experiences are conducted in the outskirts of Mumbai in locations like Karjat, Pali, Kamshet, Kolad, Palghar also giving the young minds, a glimpse of beautiful local Indian cultures. We do fun activities like - stick building, rock stacking, journey Stick, Organic farming, Forest art & games garland making, participating in farming, cooking and cleaning; adventurous stuff like trekking, rock climbing, river swimming etc. Participants are encouraged to record their experiences the old-school way for Children of Tribe journals; Based on modern and slightly worrying truth that the city kids learn to walk on even, concrete and carpeted surfaces. But when they are eventually faced with an uneven surface, they will be unwillingly out into danger as they do not know how to use the space and how to walk. With Children of Tribe, my wish is to feed onto a child’s innate need for risk but with reasonable risk in order to prevent them finding greater risks for themselves at later stages of life. The other driving principle of Children of Tribe experiences is Sustainable thinking & sustainable living. These experiences are steeped in No Plastic; Consume Less; Give Back concepts. So, Children of Tribe provides experiences which are fun in an unplugged way! Just for a few hours, say bye bye to ‘gadgets & e-play’ instead, get your hands dirty in mud.

The goal is to create fundraising events for the Jane Goodall Institute, power-points for teachers to use to educate their students, and to tell at least 100 people about my project so more people can be aware of its goal! I will mostly spread the word through family, friends, and the local schools in my area. Though, if my project starts to take off, I will probably go online in order to reach a larger group of people. To make an even greater impact, in order to save everything I, and all nature lovers, care about.

Our project uses handkerchiefs as a unique tool to tell the world about the critical issue of deforestation. We use our project to communicate widely, but also to raise money for grassroots organizations (mostly indigenous) that are on the ground in places where forests (especially peat land forests) and the creatures that live in them are threatened. We raise money by partnering with local businesses that advertise on tourist maps we print on handkerchiefs. We also raise money through the sale of these handkerchiefs.

In the fall, our students will begin to evaluate the 1/2 acre plot to see how our spring planting succeeded. Along with Pheasants Forever, we will begin monitoring the flora and fauna found in our area and watch for the continued success of our native species. We hope to evaluate the soil as well as the amount of rainfall in the area. Once we have established our milkweed population, we hope to attract Monarch butterflies to the area to evaluate their numbers, tag and monitor them. Our students will be citizen scientists, collecting, evaluating and communicating the information to the Monarch watch team and to the community.
