We will be going around to different places and events, teaching kids what to do in these situations. To begin, as we must start small, we will be teaching them how to make a water filtration straw. We will also be asking for donations, in order to create donation kits for homeless shelters. This incorporates the idea that they do not have power, and we will be helping them along with educating children.

Our project will connect our neighborhood children to the local wildlife, landscape, plant species and water resources. It will also allow our neighborhood children to connect with local experts and hopefully work directly with them on activities such as planting in our community garden and keeping our local bike path beautiful.

We are starting a 2 week environmental leadership summer program for teens in North Florida. They will explore North Florida's wild places- from our springs to our swamps- on fun educational adventures, restoring them by working alongside the Alachua Conservation Trust NGO on hands-on conservation projects from planting longleaf pine trees to maintaining nature trails, and become leaders for them through workshops on leadership and careers in the environment. It will be affordable and aimed towards students from a wide range of backgrounds. See our website and apply at: https://www.walkforwildflorida.org/young-leaders-for-wild-florida

Roots & Shoots at CNU will work with the Newport News Master Gardner's to plan and plant a new riparian buffer at Causey's Mill on the edge of Lake Maury. School-groups and community members will be invited to help with the project to raise awareness of runoff problems. Signs will be posted on the property so all visitors will be able to learn about the riparian buffer, and how riparian buffers can be created on their own properties.

Students in the 4th and 5th grade at Whitlow Elementary School will regularly collect stream data on water pH, conductivity, temperature and dissolved oxygen. They will aggregate the data from a solar powered water quality probe with data collected using manual chemical kits. That data will be entered into the state data system which monitors streams all over the state of Georgia. Using nets they will sample the stream to see what life it supports. Our data will be used by scientists across the country.

Our project will help dogs and cats find homes, it will also help bring awareness to those who do not know how much the hurricane destroyed. We will raise money from our neighbors and use that to buy supplies on amazon from their wish list. Then we will drive down to Dickinson and deliver the supplies and in the meantime take pictures of the dogs and cats and post them on social media.
