The RECO club is a student green-club that volunteers to clean up waste from our natural areas as well as greening parts of the city in collaboration with NYC Parks Department by planting trees or working on park clean-up. The club is also affiliated with NYC's Office of Sustainability's Zero Waste Schools. We have a campaign to rescue some trash found within our school to make art projects from it (bracelets out of plastic bags, sculptures out of bottles, etc.) as well as push-in into classrooms to proactively teach other students on how to properly recycle. The RECO Club also takes trips to natural areas or facilities where innovation is taking place so that our urban youth can experience 'nature' or what people are doing around the city to promote sustainability.

Our project will inspire the young generation to engage in recycling and a more sustainable way of living. Through placing recycling bins within each one of our classrooms, we will highlight the importance of conservation and encourage students to protect our environment for many years to come. As they adapt to a sustainable lifestyle, they will enhance the alarming condition of our planet and become influential leaders who inspire other individuals to do the same. By receiving this mini-grant, our group will have the opportunity to make a strong and life-changing impact towards our campus and student body as a whole.

We, as students of the UAE, made it our mission to do our part in spreading the word about Earth Hour by conducting a campaign on March 24. Earth Hour is the world’s environmental movement towards action on climate change and it involves a straightforward action: switch off the lights and other electrical appliances for one hour, between 8.30pm to 9.30pm, every year in March. The aim is to show your responsibility and commitment. This year Earth Hour was celebrated on Saturday, March 25.

Students will research composting, create education materials to share and create a compost collection bin for food waste.
