We are starting a 2 week environmental leadership summer program for teens in North Florida. They will explore North Florida's wild places- from our springs to our swamps- on fun educational adventures, restoring them by working alongside the Alachua Conservation Trust NGO on hands-on conservation projects from planting longleaf pine trees to maintaining nature trails, and become leaders for them through workshops on leadership and careers in the environment. It will be affordable and aimed towards students from a wide range of backgrounds. See our website and apply at: https://www.walkforwildflorida.org/young-leaders-for-wild-florida

Our project is all about action! Students will be working together with people that are master gardeners and people that are knowledgeable about the Chesapeake Bay watershed in seeking guidance on how our part of the frog area helps contribute towards the Chesapeake Bay. Our lessons will be shared directly with the classroom Earth Science teachers in Earth Science grade 6, which will, in turn, be passed on to the students and be shared in a meaningful, relevant, real-world manner.

School-groups and community members will be invited to help with the project to raise awareness of runoff problems. Signs will be posted on the property so all visitors will be able to learn about the riparian buffer, and how riparian buffers can be created on their own properties.
