We are rehabilitating 6 raised garden beds at the Zoller School and also planting a butterfly garden outside the preschool and kindergarten classrooms.

We will invite some parents to help us build the bed. We have community work days, so we could build it then - or during school day.We already grow a lot of food in our garden, you can see our designs for the bed. We might grow purple potatoes or pumpkins in our new bed! Although we have lots of beds that need fixing, we would like to start on rebuilding our first one with a Roots and Shoots campaign and grant!

The project consists of planting herbs and a lettuce plant in two bins. I will water the plants twice a day--in the morning and in the afternoon. They will be in sunlight and I will document through photos their progress with beginning, middle, and end. The project will beautify and teach my family and I how to take care of a garden.

This project would offer a good environment while pleasing the eyes of walking traffic and providing a visual beautiful eatable in the courtyard.

I have already created the flower beds where I will plant my herb garden. It already has been weeded and sprayed for fire ants, it just needs small gravel for adequate water drainage and new soil that is healthier and adapted specifically for herbs. Then, I will plant my herbs! I have not yet researched the different climate/soil needs each plant will require, so I have yet to finalize the list for the seeds that I need to purchase. My tentative list of plants is basil, cilantro, oregano, parsley, rosemary, and possibly even sage or dill. It all depends on the different needs of the plants, as the area I am planting in is mostly shady, and the Texas "winter" is coming in a few months. Knowing these things, the list could either get shorter or longer. Once I plant my seeds, I will water them every day, track my progress, and wait for them to grow to maturity!

We bought a tomato plant, two types of lettuce plants, and two types of mint plants and planted them in Mackenzie's side yard. We use organic soil with manure in it and organic fertilizer. We will keep watering and fertilizing the plants and hopefully they will grow!

Our project will teach youth about agriculture, local plants, and help them develop gardening skills. It will produce food and flowers for the participants and their family. We will plant and maintain a community garden that participants and community members can contribute resources and volunteer hours. The youth and family members will take turns throughout the planting season to tend to and maintain the gardens.

We want to prepare our school's garden beds for spring planting and prune overgrowth in our butterfly garden. We also need to mulch around our trees and plant 4 new trees on campus. We will hold a garden work day on March 25 from 9-12.
