Our project will give teenage refugees a safe place to honor the human condition. We will do this by, 1) coming together each week to strengthen our mind - body connection through the practice of ballet, 2) Incorporating music from around the world including natural sounds, 3) At the end of every class, we will incorporate a dance from each student's culture, highlighting the diversity and different meanings of dance, 4) we will open and close every class with wish/prayer for the earth, its animals, or its people.

Every year we look forward to making these edible necklaces for the chimpanzees at the Chimps, Inc sanctuary in Bend, Oregon. We hope to increase our awareness of the problems with wild animals being used by the entertainment industry, drug companies, and being raised in people's homes. It feels good to bring some joy into these chimps lives. The necklaces are made with cherrios, dried fruit (figs, apples, two kinds of dates, raisins) and natural jute string. Before making the necklaces, we learned about the individual chimps at the sanctuary, as well as their distinctive personalities. They each have a sad story of abuse and neglect prior to arriving at Chimps, Inc. Sancturary.

We started work on this project in October by learning about how extreme poverty affects the lives of young people growing up throughout the world. We then started into taking action by making paper hands with message of support and uplift. For every hand we create and decorate with positive messages, the Bezos Family Foundation will donate $1.90—up to $500,000—to Save the Children’s programs empowering youth in Nicaragua and Indonesia to rise into a life they dream for themselves. The actual making of the hands is really quite easy and fun to do. We hope to share the project with other classrooms and at a community event in January.

My intention is to help the others to get more information about the truth behind the animal products consume and how harmful it is, both for animals and for human beings. I want you to take a little moment and read a little about this big international problem. (Mi intención es ayudar a los demás a informarse sobre la realidad detrás del consumo de productos animales y sobre lo perjudicial que es, tanto para animales como para humanos. Me gustaría que se tomase un momento para leer un poco sobre este gran problema internacional.)

Vegetarianism is a domino affect. Shortly after I became vegetarian, my mom, followed. I've learned that by example alone can be an inspiration. People see that it can be done and I believe it jars their conscience. So I plan to continue to politely (and sometimes not so much) defend why one should not eat animals and affect more people by eating healthy without meat and showing that we do not need to eat animals. Even one animal saved is worth it!
My project will stop sharks from extinction. I will attempt to write to Michelle Obama and her to help me stop illegal poaching in the United States. No more shark fin soup!
