I am currently knitting my first blanket, and my initial goal is to knit three blankets in total. Once they are finished, I plan on bringing them to the hospice center to be given to the patients!
Our project will clean up the beach from trash and pollution to help save the wildlife on the beach and in the water. We will meet at the Oceanside pier and clean up trash between lifeguard towers 1 and 2.
We will also be participating in Earth hour in our classroom and home as well as water bottle free day to reduce our carbon footprint. We will also help clean up our neighbourhood and school yard.
Being part of a 'Leader In Me' school, our 2nd grade group members have been learning about various traits of good leaders. Being compassionate leaders, we want to act with purpose and inspire others around us to take care of our beautiful mother Earth. We will begin doing so by taking care of the community we are a part of. We plan on bringing attention to and reducing environmental pollutants in the area around our school and nearby Forest Park. We will add at least 2 new recycling bins around the school perimeters with visible signs for people passing by. We will also schedule field trips to Forest Park with other 2nd grade groups to show them how to throw away or recycle trash properly to keep the park clean for animals and visitors.
Sustainable Experience represents the promotion of environmental and social-cultural awareness. To collaborate as an sustainable tourist in our local community in Sanganigwa gives a chance to explore places around Kigoma and an unique insight into the culture of Africa.
The initial idea of this project revolved around gay rights and the struggles that people belonging in the LGBTQ+ community tend to face from a young age. However, most (if not all) issues/social standards that affect negavitely/harm fellow human beings, will be adressed! A few examples/ideas: abuse of ANY shape and/or form, racism and how it affects individuals in this society, sexism and how it affects the sexes, addiction, mental disorders/mental health awareness etc.
Students have been making homemade pet toys to donate to the shelter and collecting wish list shelter items through our homeschool co-op and also in the community. We have a class website - https://urbanhomesteaders1.wixsite.com/roots-shoots
My students will take a quick tour around the map they created and analyze what needs to be changed at their level to improve our community's environment. We actually discussed what they (students) can do, and many of them were thinking to clean the area and plant whenever they can.
Students want to support butterflies, especially Monarchs. They will plant a variety of milkweed seeds, as well as butterfly bushes, which they will nurture until it is time to add them to our school garden and our home gardens.
A butterfly garden will be build to guarantee the species conservation due that butterflies are important pollinators. In addition, the garden will have flowers that are native plants; this will help in the conservation of plants and flowers in Puerto Rico. Using hanging bridges made by the Physics students in the course, we will build around it the butterfly garden and plant different flowers that help with the pollination in Puerto Rico.
