We are planning to map our school community and identify ways we can improve our surroundings.
United States
We will meet at the Clinton Children’s Library and have grief specialists on hand as we create art with children in hospice as a means to work through some of the unbearable pain they are experiencing. We’ll also play and interact with them and their parents as they work through some very emotionally tough issues. The kids will have opportunities to express themselves by creating their own projects that deal with nature, animals, or something they feel passionate about.

We will create a community of students, parents, teachers, and all school staff that is engaged in learning about ways to take care of ourselves and each other by creating a garden together and learning about how to better care for our environment.

Our community garden days will take place every 3rd Saturday of each month. The funding provided by this Roots and Shoots grant will help in cleaning up part of the 24th Street Garden. With this funding, we will purchase materials needed to prepare a section of the garden so that students can plant winter crops.

We are doing different things for different areas: a butterfly garden, drought tolerant plantings, seed bombing with native wildflowers.
United States
Our project will focus on making our area outside of our classroom more beautiful and safe. Many of our students live in apartments and do not have gardens at home. We want to continue to have this beautiful outdoor area where students can learn about growing vegetables and fruits but we need to replace some of the planters and benches because they are very old. This grant will allow us to continue to have this valuable space for our students.
United States
We are rehabilitating 6 raised garden beds at the Zoller School and also planting a butterfly garden outside the preschool and kindergarten classrooms.

By May 2018 we will improve the area around our school by planting an apple trees and by spreading wildflowers in early spring 2018. Additionally we will create other housing options for bees and native pollinators and install and maintain a mason bee house with mason bee cocoons.
