to make the area more nutrient and reduse waste in landfills

We will know if we are successful by our observations as the birds feed. We will be able to use this to address several of our first grade science standards. Our plan is to collect data on what birds appear, what type of food they prefer, and if different food attracts different birds.

Our compost bin will reduce the amount of organic waste disposed of improperly at this park, reduce the release of methane gas by facilitating proper decomposition, encourage people to become more aware of waste and recycling, and generate quality fertilizer that can be used by other visitors in their own gardens at home. After getting permission from the city, we will use lumber that we already have at home from previous projects and create a small, simple slatted compost bin in an unobtrusive location. The bin will be easily visible, but won't be an eyesore for visitors. Since the park is local, we will be able to visit frequently to add leaves and thicker materials to keep it from being soggy, and also to aerate the pile.

I will buy some milk weed and plant it on a two acre lot.

Our project will consist of recycling across the park to help reduce plastic waste. Once this is distributed people will have to recycle the plastic waste.

This project will improve the quality of the gardens. We will do this by creating a compost pile in the back yard.

Our project was small, but had a huge impact. Since we started working on preserving La Casita it has been rented almost every weekend. A summer camp was started, first just only 1 week, but this summer was now 2 weeks, and it brings 70 girls each week to the camp to learn about all things plant and animal related. We asked the Ranger to come and give us a hiking tour. He connected us with the Fire Department that came to teach us about First Aide. The Audubon Society wanted to come and teach us about birds. The list of helpers and partners keeps growing because people care about this land and want to preserve it for girls and boys to come and learn. They want to teach the girls new skills in a quiet and safe environment outdoors. We have an outdoor classroom (benches and cover) so we can have a lot of girls in the classes. The impact was great and we are very proud that a small group of us cared enough to preserve this land and property.

We will know that the program is successful when we actually start making the mulch and we can notice a decrease in the amount of uneaten food that is thrown away. We will be outside during lunch to ensure that excess food from students is acquired and not simply thrown away.

This project will be used at the school by creating a school garden, of plants that are fruit and vegetables using organic dirt. Students will be able to watch the process of strawberries, apple trees, and tomatoes starting from a flower to a small sized berry. Students will watch the stages that it takes for strawberries and others to grow. In addition, students will help put weeds and water the strawberries as a community involvement. Also, students will learn how each fruit is grown differently and other fruit are healthy for your bodies.
