We started by thinking about what issues we wanted to take action on and after voting, we decided to create flower gardens around the school's outdoor learning center. We scouted out the areas we wanted to plant the flowers first. then we researched the kinds of flowers that will grow in the southeastern part of the USA. Being in a coastal town, we have sandy soil and humid summers with lots of sunshine. With that in mind, we bought flowers including day lilies, wildflowers that attract hummingbirds and butterflies and wildflowers that will grow in the shade garden. Next, we dug up the garden beds and loosened up the soil. We added the flowers, flower seeds and supplements for the soil. We gathered pine straw from under the nearby pine trees and spread it over all the beds to help retain moisture. Plus, it made it look "finished". Finally, we spread some of our "910 ROCKS!" around the school campus which have painted messages of positivity on them. We have been watering the gardens almost daily. The day lilly garden is doing well. The shade garden and zinnias have also sprouted and we are excited to see what flowers were in the wildflower fragrant mix!

Our project will help reduce the amount of water we will be using in the community, by using drought tolerant plants.

We started by brainstorming ideas that we felt would be interesting projects that would address specific needs of our local community. We had a lot of good ideas and really wanted to help out at the local animal shelter. At first, we thought we would visit a local shelter and volunteer. However, after researching that option, we realized it was not possible. So we took up our second favorite project idea, which was to improve the outdoor learning center at our school. We have benches there (unpainted) and a shade tree, but it needed care and attention. We decided to paint the benches and someone suggested that we add hand prints. After thinking about it a little longer, we realized we could raise money by asking students to donate $1 to add their handprint to the benches. We could then use that money as a donation to our local animal shelter. Right now, the benches are painted and we are creating signs to add to the space to inform people of it's purpose as well as educate them about the International NGO Roots and Shoots! Next steps will be to put the signs in place, add our own handprints and then collect donations and handprints! We are excited to have a place at our school where other kids can "Pause 4 Paws"!

Our project will involve gardening, group reading, playing games and making crafts. We will bring our materials to the senior center and we will work to build community through these fun activities.

Our project will help to unite our community and will make the students feel more connected to their building. It would showcase the students engineering and design skills. Students will consider: How can we build sculptures that will stand up to elements while staying within the building constraints of the placement? Enduring Understandings Students understand structural integrity. Students understand the engineering design cycle. Essential Questions What materials can be used to withstand different environments? What are our building limitations? How much do our materials cost? How do we manipulate these materials? How do we keep our structures together?

The Wish Tree Team will plant a small umbrella tree in our town's community field/park and they will mount a small mailbox next to the tree and keep it supplied with tags and writing utensils. Anyone can fill out a tag with their wishes/hopes or dreams and hang it from a branch on the tree.

WE WILL GO VISIT THE ELDERLY, JAILHOUSES, SCHOOLS, AND ENCOURAGE EVERYONE TO REFRAIN FROM CRIME AND HELP MAKE OUR COMMUNITY A BETTER PLACE
United States
We will go out and mow yards for the elderly and disabled within our community. We will visit the elderly that have yards outgrown and we will clean their yards for them. This funding will help us purchase one of the lawn mowers that we need.
