Our plan was to have 25 double truck loads of clean, white fill to make the footing safer for the horses and volunteers and we did. We had a bobcat move all the sand, and the stalls were leveled and put back together by volunteers. We always need volunteers to help us remove the stall mats, then help level the sand in the stalls and walkways and put the mats back in. The stalls and common areas look so much better and offer everyone safe footing. Please sign up to help with one of our many other projects or call (954) 609-5943 to set up a date to, bring out your group to help us accomplish one of the many needs on our list. We have the supplies to accomplish the goals, we just need the manpower to make it happen. Sign up at fttp://www.eiaHORSES.org

Students will learn about creating bouquets, but more importantly, they will bring a ray of sunshine to school neighbors who are shut ins. We will work in teams to pick flowers, find appropriate containers, and create beautiful arrangements to share. We will add cards of greeting created by students. We will deliver the arrangements to neighbors. We will share our message in social media and hope it will inspire others to carry out similar acts of kindness.

My project will start a recycling program in our school community by buying bins of three different colors and placing them throughout the school building. We also notified the Sanitation Department and NYC Parks & Recreation about placing recycling bins in the park next to our school.

We started by thinking about what issues we wanted to take action on and after voting, we decided to create flower gardens around the school's outdoor learning center. We scouted out the areas we wanted to plant the flowers first. then we researched the kinds of flowers that will grow in the southeastern part of the USA. Being in a coastal town, we have sandy soil and humid summers with lots of sunshine. With that in mind, we bought flowers including day lilies, wildflowers that attract hummingbirds and butterflies and wildflowers that will grow in the shade garden. Next, we dug up the garden beds and loosened up the soil. We added the flowers, flower seeds and supplements for the soil. We gathered pine straw from under the nearby pine trees and spread it over all the beds to help retain moisture. Plus, it made it look "finished". Finally, we spread some of our "910 ROCKS!" around the school campus which have painted messages of positivity on them. We have been watering the gardens almost daily. The day lilly garden is doing well. The shade garden and zinnias have also sprouted and we are excited to see what flowers were in the wildflower fragrant mix!

We started by brainstorming ideas that we felt would be interesting projects that would address specific needs of our local community. We had a lot of good ideas and really wanted to help out at the local animal shelter. At first, we thought we would visit a local shelter and volunteer. However, after researching that option, we realized it was not possible. So we took up our second favorite project idea, which was to improve the outdoor learning center at our school. We have benches there (unpainted) and a shade tree, but it needed care and attention. We decided to paint the benches and someone suggested that we add hand prints. After thinking about it a little longer, we realized we could raise money by asking students to donate $1 to add their handprint to the benches. We could then use that money as a donation to our local animal shelter. Right now, the benches are painted and we are creating signs to add to the space to inform people of it's purpose as well as educate them about the International NGO Roots and Shoots! Next steps will be to put the signs in place, add our own handprints and then collect donations and handprints! We are excited to have a place at our school where other kids can "Pause 4 Paws"!

Our project will involve gardening, group reading, playing games and making crafts. We will bring our materials to the senior center and we will work to build community through these fun activities.
