We will do this by creating posters for each goal and hanging them in the glass corridor of our school. In addition we will designate a week to be Peace Week where we will have members of the community decorate doves to hang around school, make videos and collages supporting our goals of world peace and generally making the community feel inspired and able to make a peaceful difference in our world.

Our project will make our teachers and staff at school feel appreciated by sending them anonymous compliments and kind notes. What we will do is create heart shaped decorative slips of paper and during lunch for a couple days in our student center, have the student body write notes to the different staff members. Roots & Shoots members will organize, review, and deliver the notes to the beneficiary staff members.

We set up a Peace Booth at the Elkhart County 4-H Fair ( 2nd largest County Fair in the U.S.), which has over 280,000 visitors. We are in our 4th year at the Fair and are continually enlarging our peace literature that we have available for the public. We have over 35 different organizations that contribute their literature to our Peace Booth, in order to enlighten the public to what is out in the world and how they can become involved with the various organizations.

We plan to have bake sale to raise money for the Buy No Rhino organization. We will create posters to advertise for the event. We will create a skit, iMovies, bookmarks and a song to raise awareness and support the rhinos. We will post these on the blog, share them during the bake sale and share the presentations at the school assembly.

1) Create welcome packages for students who are new to the school. 2) Pack and distribute snack bags for homeless children. 3) Collect and fill boxes with holiday gifts for an inner city elementary school. 4) Host a bowl painting activity for students. These bowls will be donated to the “Empty Bowl” fundraiser for St. Vincent De Paul charity. Empty Bowls is St. Vincent de Paul of Baltimore’s signature event that raises funds, friends and awareness of their work to serve those who are hungry and homeless in our community. 5) Make bird feeders to put around outside the school. 6) Put “Love Notes” in library books and random lockers. 7) Make Posters of different Random Acts of Kindness to hang throughout the school. 8) And as many more acts of kindness as we can do. More activities will be determined throughout the school year.

My project will consist of making or tending to the landscapes in Río Piedras, as well as providing food for the homeless people and stray animals, recollecting unwanted electronics that can be reused or recycled, making pedestrian crossing problems more aware to the mayor, etc... It is my belief that the environment plays a role on human behavior and that by making Río Piedras more cleaner and beautiful with plants, this will have a positive impact on people's everyday behavior.
