After developing a community map and brainstorming our own wonderings students called upon a community focus. They are seeking community leaders to support their first focus .Launching our studies with a recognition of International Peace Day we created poems and illustrations and our first cause this year is to support humane treatment of animals close to our community. We will write letters to the city mayor and petition community leaders to examine the treatment of the animals at the Central Park Carriage. Last year our petitions were recognized by President Obama. Through small changes and actions we can make a difference. We recently completed investigations of endangered animals and published petitions which we shated school wide.

We created a club, this is the starting point for this project. We've divided wellness into 7 (8, if still receiving an education) areas and each club meeting indulge ourselves in a new area. This is meant to be a voluntary exploration, this way students receive the most out of the experience. We also promote outside events that we believe can really benefit our members. Our goal is to get a solid foundation and one day turn it into a curriculum that schools around LAUSD will adopt, and hope to make it grow from there.

The Children's Peaceful Garden project is underway and will continue this spring to be added to and grow more edible and perennial fruits, flowers, herbs, and vegetables, add native, shade-loving plants to our greenroof chicken coop, improve our low-wind generation system and seesaw pump, add to our apiary and bee sanctuary, upgrade our composting operations, install another rain barrel and more drip irrigation, all to demonstrate and teach children how to conserve water and energy, what it means to have a zero carbon footprint, and why to make healthy choices by eating local, organic, and sustainable.
