In our area, when people come to the shelter, they are presented with book bags. The “Go-Go bags” will fit nicely in the book bag even when they have other items in there. My organization will get our volunteers to shop for food and we will pack these bags. We will pick up toiletries from the local doctor offices and insert small pamphlets of words of encouragement. Once they are packed, they will be distributed to the Women and Children’s Homeless Shelter of Mecklenburg County. I once lived in the shelter with my grandmother for a short period and I want to be there to help the women and children as people helped us.

I am leading the Women Changing Our World Foundation (Twitter: @WCOWUSA), a women's advocacy organization and nonprofit founded in partnership with MetoWe and the Myna Mahila foundation, which has partnered with the Downtown Women's Center on LA's Skid Row, to support residents, young women, girls, and teenagers in impoverished or underserved parts of Los Angeles in support of UN Women's mission to ensure a fair and equitable environment and end gender parity. Our objectives are to empower young women and girls, targeting those part of indigenous and traditionally underserved communities, reduce stigmas concerning menstruation which prevent young girls from receiving an education while being culturally sensitive, and disseminate health and hygiene information and sanitary pads and products assistance for 5,000 girls and young women. The importance of uplifting the young girls who will grow into the female leaders we revere is only highlighted by the recent women's march and its crucial place in our communities.

Bring healthier food options to after school programming at Youth Works after school program by shopping the organic section of the store, as well as the farmers market when it opens in the spring to ensure the freshest snacks to those children who live in a "food dessert" and most often do not have the opportunity to eat fresh produce.

We will grow food in crates. Each family takes home a themed sustainable food system. For example. A themed pizza garden may include tomatoes, garlic, basil, oregano, onions etc.

We would like to use the funds to support active community service trips and initiatives. We plan to use the funds to make sandwiches for a group that donates them to people who are experiencing homelessness, to buy supplies for local food banks and to support the City Meals on Wheels program. On a larger scale, we will use to funds to raise awareness within our school and larger community about this important issue.

My class has chosen to focus on pollinator awareness. We've started a small apiary in the school and working on increasing public awareness. My students are learning to keep honeybees, extract and bottle honey, and use beeswax to make products. Our current obstacle is to increase the availability of pollinating plants by planting fruit and nut trees in the school park

Hawlemont's playground is the only public park in the town. We having been working over the past few years to add gardens and fruit trees for the town's enjoyment. The gardens and trees not only beautify the park but add healthy fruits and vegetables for the community to enjoy. We are hoping to be able to plant several more fruit trees and continue to add and enhance our gardens. This year we would like to plant 5 new fruit trees and add a raised bed for a tomato garden on the side of our barn.

Our project will show love and compassion to those who may feel like they have been left out. We will do this by giving what we can to stop hungry pains with a meal for that day or give a blanket to someone who may be freezing outside.

The project, growing, planting and harvesting will take three months. We have an existing garden and four classes that come in. We'll get the seeds, have the kids plant them and care for them and tend to them, and keep a record of what they see and learn in their garden journals.

Our garden was flourishing last year. The children were very excited to share in the Harvest as well as all of the work that needed doing to keep the garden healthy. I would love to replicate that experience again this year. Anyone that visits our school can see our beautification first hand.
