This project will be completed by reusing and recycling materials to hand-make the cards. I will also hold card-making parties at my house to involve more peers on this important issue and take a break from school to utilize their creative side.

We will have a dual mural. One side concerned with environmental steward-ism and the other side concerned with human unity. The funding will mostly be sustained from fundraisers and grants. It will be showcased at the center of the campus.

By receiving this funding, we will be able to add more space for students to comfortably engage in science lessons & more planting areas for hands-on, student-driven learning. This project will also engage the school community. Getting the tables and garden beds build & installed is more than a one person job. I will organize a work day for students, families, teachers, community members, etc. to come & help with this infrastructure update! Once in place, students will then take control of the newly installed garden beds- planning, planting, & maintaining all that in put into the soil.

To start we assessed our school to where or what needed the most help. We educated ourselves about the proper ways to recycle and what can be recycled. We looked to see where garbage was collecting and if there were garbage and recycling bins around. We also put up recycling signs that let people know what they could or could not recycle. We put signs around the school that invited people to our All School Clean Up. After school we walked around the playground and cleaned the garbage and sorted them into the correct recyclable categories. We had garbage bags, recycling bin, plastic gloves to help us pick up garbage. We also wrote a grant to try to get a recycling bin on the playground. And eventually we would like to plant a tree on our freshly cleaned playground.

Our KYE-YAC Roots & Shoots group joined with the Sister City Foundation to participate in a local Peace Day celebration called Seeds of Peace. We will celebrate peace through art, chalk art, on the sidewalk running through the park. We will engage kids and adults to take part and share their vision of peace through art – and a little play!
