We will present at 3 elementary schools this year to encourage children to preserve their health and prevent diseases by teaching them the science behind healthy lifestyle behaviors. Each school visit will consist of 4 stations, each dedicated to a different system of the body. The children will rotate between the stations, spending 1 hour at each. Through hands-on, interactive lessons in anatomy and physiology, the children will learn how unhealthy and healthy lifestyle behaviors impact each body system in a negative and positive way, respectively.

My project will gather donated items from my community and school and partner by giving the donations to Operation Gratitude to give to the people that were impacted. We will place bins in front of the school, classrooms, and the library to make it easier for students to donate to the cause.

Our project is to grow edible plants from seed and distribute to seedlings to the students. They then want to use the fruits of their plants to help those in need around them. All of my students have identified the need for food in our community. They want to use what they have learned in garden class to share with the community. They hope to both feed and teach those they meet in need.

Project Rousseau organises regular brunches at the Grand Central Neighborhood homeless shelter, facilitated by our staff and run by our students. We are looking to raise money to fund our brunches, which cost $275 each. A mini-grant of $200 would cover the majority of our costs for our brunch on October 8, and would ensure that both residents of the shelter and our students are able to have a meaningful and enriching experience.

With the Roots & Shoots $200 mini grant, I will put together menstrual hygiene product "kits" for the food pantry/assistance program. These "kits" will contain items such as pads, tampons, underwear, bar soap, and toothpaste. I will also be sewing reusable cloth pads, since they can alleviate the costs of disposable menstrual hygiene products. After talking with the food pantry director, we decided to start out with 20 pads as a trial period. I will also be creating informational pamphlets about menstruation and the menstrual movement for community members.

We will meet with restaurant management, owners, and distributers to achieve these goals over time. We will also reach out to volunteer organizations in an effort to increase our manpower and thus timeframe of the overall project.

We will visit individual restaurants and ask them to donate anything they can to the foodbank that we help at regularly. We hope to receive a lot of support in this endeavor as we plan, in the long term, to try and find a way to help these families stave off hunger.

Our goal last year at Accelere was to make a laboratory to grow out tilapia for our shelters. Mllard Extension students discovered how to breed the fish to keep this project as a sustainable food source for communities. Our goal is to be a resource for communities on how to make these sustainable farming.
