The Skyview School of STEM Roots and Shoots Service Learning Project meets every Wednesday for an hour. The students will learn the process of composting both with worms and with dairy products. We will celebrate and communicate our results in May at a School Wide Assembly. Throughout the project the students will gain leadership skills by educating their peers.
For our project we will work with the Green Mountain Falls Trails Committee buy and install at least one bear-proof trash can. We will also create student signs to educate and encourage people to pick up after their dogs. This signs will be installed along the trail. Lastly, we will design and build boxes for dog bags. Here people can repurpose plastic bags and people who do not have a bag with them will have a way to clean up after their dog.
We will be learning about this during our weekly Roots & Shoots after school enrichment time. We will be using Project Learning Tree curriculum to understand more about our environment and the human impact that we have through our everyday actions. We will learn more about what plants and trees are around us and how they help us and how we can help them. We will investigate which plants and trees we need more of to balance our local ecosystem. We will be able to identify what plants and trees we currently have and, if needed, plant additional trees and plants.
I will start by providing education to the people especially students and teachers

Using Esri and ArcGIS mapping software, I will map the impact, incineration, and health zones that represent areas where people, animals, and the environment would be affected by the compressor station. The map will be printed on a 2x3 foam board, and displayed at a local harvest block party.
