UCAN will reach out to approximately 50 homebound individuals (elderly, disabled) who are unable to complete yard work. With our team of student volunteers and community volunteers, we will rake and remove dead brush, plant new spring flowers and help those who are unable to care for their yards.

My project will stop people from littering. We will do this by, picking up litter WHEREVER we see it, meeting weekly to clean up litter in neighborhoods, and reusing any materials we can.

April is National Child Abuse Awareness Month and our Roots & Shoots group would like to acknowledge the important and compassionate work child advocates in our community provide to children who are abused. We would like the tree to also represent the hope of growth and a new beginning.

We will print a list of acceptable items for recycling in our city. We will apply for a grant to purchase recycling bins for our school to use. We will create a shared space to store paper tube rolls, bottles, caps, cardboard and other materials to turn into upcycled art projects in our Early Childhood Education classrooms.

Our project will allow the music classes and other performance or presentation based events to take place outdoors.

Our project will engage at least 50 more volunteers in the community work our school does in and around the neighborhood. We will be able to do this by giving the participants the necessary protective wear that they will need for our projects so they do not have to provide it themselves.

After several discussions within the group, we decided to host a fashion show. We would only use recyclable materials in the fashion show so that not only could we promote a message that these materials are more useful than most of us think, but also we would not generate more waste. We would also put a theme of Leukemia for the fashion show.
