My project will give students the chance to prepare foods that they want to eat as well as introducing new foods to them. Each year, I walk with students to the farmers' market. This year, I want to give them a chance to select and buy produce to take back to school so that we can prepare interesting dishes. I am hoping to use a Roots and Shoots grant to purchase items like olive oil, vinegar, spices, pasta, and other food staples that will be used in the food preparation. Also, I plan to purchase a camp stove to prepare pasta, rice, and other basic foods for the kids to use in their dishes. We will prepare the food in our school garden. We have six picnic tables and there are some plants we can use to enhance the dishes like peppers, arugula, mint, anise, and more. Since the garden is thriving the pleasant outdoor setting is conducive to food preparation.

Our project will build a mini farm at our new school, focusing on organic growing techniques. We will incorporate composting from the school cafeteria to recycle waste and add nutrients to our garden. The K - 8 students will participate in and learn from garden activities and food from the gardens will be contributed to our local food bank.

We will occupy a booth at the local Earth Day Festival. We will create a PLINKO game to draw young children and other guests to our booth. Once the guests play our game, they will also get an activity book that we have created. The activity book will have fun and educational activities about saving the environment, recycling, and about Earth Day. We will also purchase globe keychains and globe punch ball balloons to give away as prizes.

3 weeks We need to learn about poverty in our city, learn about immigrants coming to a large city like ours, learn about social service agencies (Care For Real and Pan African Association) and national groups (American Red Cross). Once students know about this, they will make signs to ask others to donate coats to the Coat Drive, They will make signs for outdoor collection, will collect the coats and will sort them. They will help load the cars so we can take the coats. Someof the studnets will take the coats and put them in the clothing pantry at the agency.

Our project will hopefully get the younger children in the community involved in science and teach them the basics of science. We will do it by having small groups research easy demo's that have a clear relation to science.
