We will plant native butterfly and bee friendly gardens and involve everyone, no matter the abilities of the person. In other words we will take the empty planters around the campus and take soil tests, and if needed enrich the soil; take measurements and with those work with the special ed. groups and design a native garden to help support the environment and native fauna. Consequently, we will not waste water, and help inspire the students to take part n conserving the native flora and fauna.

Our project will involve students and the school community members in planning, installing and caring for native plants on our campus. We will educate our school community on the importance of providing pollinators and wildlife with a safe place to eat, reproduce and thrive. California native plants will be low maintenance and require significantly less water than non native plants. They will add natural beauty and food for native wildlife year round. We have already started with the chicken waterers, we have are replacing an inefficient, dirty waterer with a water line that provides fresh clean water to our chickens. We started that project a week ago and are half way done. Our next project to tackle is to re-route dirty pond water from runoff to storm drains, to gardens that will love the nitrogen rich water. Our last project in this series is to fill a pond that has no pump system for our waterfowl as an extra water space, and create a pump system that uses human energy, like perhaps a bicycle, to pump this water to a food forest that we will be planting in the near future.

I want students to develop and implement a recycling program that students USE, possibly bring rain barrels to campus and use the water for plant-life rather than it just running to the drain, and drought-resistant plants on campus.

We will be taking a field trip to a local park, and will clean up all the trash and spread awareness. We also want to test the water to see of it is healthy and if not spread awareness.

We have already planned and collected research on what plants survive best in a drought. Now with our data we would like to plant a drought tolerant garden in front of our school for all to see and enjoy and create awareness.
