Our project will visit various animal environments within our community, create replica animal environments to study in our classrooms, and hold a mini earth day fair around the topic of helping the community to save the natural habitats of animals in our environments.
I am an EA in my own children's school. I will start a school club to bring awareness about different topics. It is a k-9 school.
We will work with BiciCentro, a local bike organisation, to train students in all things bike, from repair to safety.
Go to a variety of wildlife habitats, identify wildlife by sound, sight, and scent. Collect fishing line from recycle bins and recycle it. Test pond and stream water to see extent of pollution. Check on condition turtle rafts and replace as necessary. Determine if native turtles re using it or invasive turtles.
My project is long-term, and has already begun. Late last spring I had planted corn crops for the first time in my life. I had no experience back then so I did not get the best crop results, but they were decent. Then I had realized that you can legally make fuel out of corn that is safe to use at home. At the same time you can also eat the corn, and dry some kernels for a new crop. Growing just corn is a highly efficient crop to grow because of the many uses. Recently I have had the desire to grow edible plants from the seed. Apples are one of my favorite fruits, and I learned how to grow them too. You take the seeds, put them in a moist paper towel, and let them in the fridge until they sprout. Then you place them in a pot, and the trunk will start. This way you will get a decent amount of wood, and lots of delicious apples which you can donate to the local food bank!
On December 6th 2014, people around the world will spend a few hours picking up litter in their street, neighbourhood, local park, beach, workplace school, or wherever they can, to make the world green and clean again, and safe for wildlife. A facebook event has been created: https://www.facebook.com/events/1561976780689227/ and an instagram account has been set-up: http://instagram.com/cleanupyourworld
The Green Geckos have decided to design a logo to be printed on on order of IdealCups- New Zealand's first barista-friendly reusable coffee cup, designed to replace reusable cups. They're 100% reusable, 100% recyclable, and 100% BPA free! We're able to choose our own colours and design our own logo to be printed on the cups, to be sold at school to our community.
We're designing bin signs that utilise the three most spoken languages at Clifton Terrace Model School: English, Spanish and Te Reo Maori. We're trying to design the signs so they're not too wordy (for our new entrance students!) and use the most clear and effective images possible. We're also wanting to use a few key images from our reFUSE REfuse exhibition, to send the message of what waste belongs in which bins even more clearly!
Following our waste audit we found excessive amounts of paper in the recycling that hadn't been used to its full potential. We care about trees, and even though recycling is wonderful- we want to use every piece of paper as best we can before putting it in the recycling bin!
