LET PEACE TAKE ROOT!

Doves

Roots & Shoots Groups Participating in the Dove Parade at the Day of Peace 2009 on the Santa Monica Pier

Welcome to the Roots & Shoots California Day of Peace Page!

“With the peace doves we remind everyone of the truth they sometimes forget – that peace is possible. With Day of Peace, we celebrate all that is free and noble in the human spirit. And we celebrate all that so many people have done throughout the year and will do next year to create a better world.”

-Dr. Jane

Basic Info:

Join us in celebrating our 9th annual Roots & Shoots California Day of Peace on Sunday, September 18th! In 2011, for the first time, Roots & Shoots California is celebrating our 9th annual Day of Peace in Northern California. Join us at the Oakland Zoo!

What: Each year, in support of the United Nations International Day of Peace, Roots & Shoots members and friends come together to promote peace. Throughout the day, there will be many fun activities, including a project for the Zoo's chimpanzees! Enjoy arts & crafts as we make Peace Doves out of recycled materials, games, eco-friendly non-profits, and much more. Young attendees will be able to participate in Passport to Peace, an exciting and educational activity where participants travel from booth to booth of eco-friendly and peace promoting exhibitors, taking part in fun activities while learning important lessons and earning passport stamps along the way.

The event culminates in the Peace Parade. All over the world, young people craft Giant Peace Dove Puppets from reused materials and fly the Doves in parades in their communities. From the low plains of Kansas to the top of Mount Kilimanjaro, Peace Doves fly, held high by hopeful hands.

When: Sunday, September 18th, 2011 from 10a.m to 4p.m.

Where: The Oakland Zoo, 9777 Golf Links Road, Oakland, California, 94605

Who: All ages, groups, and community members are welcome to attend and celebrate the Roots & Shoots International Day of Peace.

This event is open to the public! Spread the word, with this great flyer, to friends, family, and anyone who might be interested in coming out to the Oakland Zoo to spend a day having fun and celebrating peace!
