California Youth Leadership Summit 2011
We are thrilled to announce that this year's Jane Goodall's Roots & Shoots California Youth Leadership Summit will be held at Robert A. Millikan Middle School in Sherman Oaks!
What: The California Youth Leadership Summit (CAYLS) attracts over one hundred youth who develop and strengthen their leadership skills. Over the course of this summit attendees will get to know the outdoors, hear fantastic guest speakers, attend youth led workshops and participate in group-building activities. Youth will explore the problems facing our environment and learn how they can address them with Roots & Shoots. Come to build your skills, learn to kick-start a school garden, and hear from influential individuals, youth and organizations who can help you achieve your goals
When: Sunday, November 6, 2011. This is an all day event!
Where: Robert A. Millikan Middle School in Sherman Oaks, Calif.
Who: The Summit is open to all Roots & Shoots California group leaders and members ages 12 and older.

Summit 2010
The Roots & Shoots California Youth Leadership Summit took place at the incredible Ocean Institute in Dana Point, California in 2010. The Summit focused on Ocean Pollution and was attended by approximately 100 people! Summit attendees gained an in-depth understanding of how pollution affects marine ecosystems, and what they can do to help. Activities included expeditions on the Ocean Institutes' sea exploring vessel, the R/V Sea Explorer, where they got to experience the onboard touch tanks, viewing aquariums and video microscopes. They also attended presentations by the Wyland Foundation and renowned BBC Blue Whale videographer Earl Richmond.
Summit 2009
The Roots & Shoots California Youth Leadership Summit 2009 occurred November 13th-15th, 2009, at Temescal Gateway Park in Pacific Palisades, California. The event welcomed special guests Los Angeles Mayor Villaraigosa and KTLA reporter Lu Parker. Participants took part in workshops about fundraising, public speaking, event planning and many more. Activities included a brainstorming session, an environmental scavenger hunt, and a community service project, all planned by the Roots & Shoots California Youth Leadership Council (CAYLC).
