Albuquerque Animal Shelter

Albuquerque, New Mexico

City animal shelter is host to a Roots & Shoots Animal Shelter Youth Board alongside other volunteer opportunities.


Citizen Schools

Nationwide

After school program offering apprenticeships led by volunteer members of the community. Recently hosted a Roots & Shoots apprenticeship.

 

Grand Circle Field School

Arizona, Colorado, New Mexico and Utah

Nonprofit educational field school providing, in collaboration with the National Park Service and Bureau of Land Management, multi day educational excursions which focus on science, history, arts and service learning on the public lands of the Colorado Plateau.


Pecos People for Animal Welfare Society (P.A.W.S.)

Pecos, New Mexico

Dedicated to the prevention of cruelty to animals, the promotion of humane animal care, and the reduction of over population of companion animals. Host to a Roots & Shoots Youth Board.  Offers volunteers opportunities and humane animal care outreach programs.


Prairie Dog Coalition

Boulder, Colorado

Provides education and resources to the community about prairie dogs, conservation and the protection of their ecosystems. Actively partners and campaigns to save and protect prairie dogs and their habitats.


Randall Davey Audubon Center

Santa Fe, New Mexico

Center includes 135 acres of landscapes and is surrounded by thousands of acres of National Forest and Santa Fe River Watershed land. The Center property provides a safe habitat for plants and animals ranging from common to rare species. Also onsite is an environmental education classroom, nature store, hiking trails, the offices of Audubon New Mexico, and the historic home of Santa Fe artist Randall Davey.

Rivers & Birds

Taos, New Mexico

A diverse group engaging in research and education of sustainable cultural traditions and the preservation of natural heritage.  Offers open-conversation in school programs, community workshops and activities.


  Santa Fe Animal Shelter

        Santa Fe, New Mexico

Host to Root & Shoots Animal Shelter Youth Board. Shelter conducts adoption programs and spay/neuter programs. Offers educational and volunteer opportunities.

 

       Talking Talons

        Tijeras, New Mexico

Group dedicated to the protection of birds of prey and other animals including three different species of bats. Is host to annual community event WILDFEST. Offers volunteer opportunities and educational leadership programs.

 

Westminster College

       Salt Lake City, Utah

College runs Roots & Shoots internship program through the Environmental Outreach department led by Roots & Shoots Coordinator Monica Ferreira.

 

Wind River Ranch

Watrous, New Mexico

Foundation works to protect the wilderness through ecology, research, education and the arts. Educational programs include experiential learning, school programs and scientific studies. A collaborative effort with Roots & Shoots Coordinator Teresa Gray.


I Chi Kung

Albuquerque, New Mexico 

Offers classes, retreats and workshops in the ancient art Chi Kung. Chi Kung is the foundation of traditional Chinese medicine, including acupuncture, acupressure, shiatsu, martial arts and many other healing practices dating back 5,000 years.

EcoVersity

Santa Fe, New Mexico

Educational center which explores and demonstrates concepts of sustainable living, ecological design, and responsibility to the Earth. Provides on-line and on-site educational resources and volunteer opportunities.

 

Forum For Youth

Albuquerque, New Mexico

A statewide intermediary organization supporting positive youth development approaches and strategies throughout the youth-development field in New Mexico. Offers technical assistance, training, systems alignment and capacity building to youth-serving organizations and youth-development practitioners, as well as to citizens who are interested in the well-being of New Mexican youth.

 

La Montanita Co-op

New Mexico Statewide

A member owned food market supporting the distribution of organic, fair trade and locally grown foods. Offers volunteer opportunities, community events and informational resources on food health and the environment.

Los Ploblanos Organics

Albuquerque, New Mexico

An organic farm providing produce to the community with an interest in sustainable agriculture. Offers educational resources and internships.


Rio Grande Community Farm

Albuquerque, New Mexico

A certified organic farm supplying food to both humans and animals supported mainly by volunteers. Provides projects, workshops and volunteer opportunities in areas of farming, gardening, wildlife and food security networks.

 

Save the Chimps

Fort Pierce, Florida
Alamogordo, New Mexico

A permanent sanctuary for chimpanzees rescued from biomedical research, entertainment and the pet trade. Offers onsite and offsite volunteer positions assisting in support for chimp caretakers and fundraising.

 

W.O.L.F Sanctuary

La Porte, Colorado

A non-profit sanctuary for captive wolves/wolf-dogs. Missions to rescue animals in need, provide life-long sanctuary, and educate the public about these misunderstood animals.  Volunteer opportunities.
