Roots & Shoots in the Northeast

The Northeast region is home to 200 Roots & Shoots groups, involving 8,000 youth who are motivated and ready to make a difference in the Northeast! We work with Roots & Shoots groups and organizational partners in Connecticut, Massachusetts, Maine, New Hampshire, New York, Rhode Island and Vermont.

Meet Our Regional Staff!

Kellan Hays
Media and Program Coordinator

Kellan started with Roots & Shoots as an Intern in 2006. She now handles regional events, media and communications, our internship program, plus has the joy of mentoring the Northeast Youth and College Leadership Councils as the Northeast Media and Program Coordinator. She has previously worked with the Massachusetts Public Interest Research Group and Move On PAC (Political Action Committee). Kellan earned a bachelor's degree from Tulane University in New Orleans, majoring in both Sociology and Communications.

Meet Our Summer 2011 Interns!

Stephanie Anderson

Stephanie is a senior at Brandeis University working towards degrees in Environmental Studies, International Relations, and Politics. As a summer 2011 intern at Roots & Shoots, Stephanie enjoys learning about non-profit work and writing articles about members’ creative and diverse projects. While her passion for the outdoors stems from her upbringing on a family farm in Missouri, subsequent volunteering with the U.S. Forest Service and other environmental organizations has compelled her to pursue a future career in environmental conservation or wildlife rehabilitation. Stephanie is very excited to explore these interests further by studying abroad in Kenya and Tanzania with the School for Field Studies' Wildlife Management program this fall.

Sara Parrow

Sara Parrow attended UMass Amherst and graduated Cum Laude in 2008 with a degree in Natural Resource Economics. While in school, she was the secretary of the UMass Dressage Team, a member of the Belted Galloway Society, Inc. group and aided in the restoration of a Holyoke farmland. She is currently the manager of a local farm in Sharon, Mass. and has been a dedicated volunteer for Roots & Shoots in New England since 2008. In her spare time, Sara enjoys hiking and horseback riding.
