The Roots & Shoots New England Youth Leadership Council
"The misson of the NEYLC is to create a strong community of regional and international Roots & Shoots groups by spreading roots of stability through a network of passionate, active and organized local leaders."
The NEYLC is a group of high-school students ages 14 and older who plan and implement local, regional, national and internation service projects. They also provide mentorship to New England R&S members, NEYLC members receive special opportunites for training, networking and recognition. "Community is the key to success. Ever since I started doing my part in protecting and saving the environment and wildlife, I have realized that there are many people who also share my passion towards making a difference both on a local and global scale. This is what I love about Roots and Shoots. The community within Roots & Shoots is like that of a family. No matter where you are, from Massachusetts to California, or even as far as Africa, there is always a Roots & Shoots member willing to help you with whatever goal you are pursuing. When I meet other Roots & Shoots members, it feels like I already have a connection with them, due to the close knit family that is Roots & Shoots.
"What makes the community of Roots & Shoots so strong is that it is continuously growing. The creation of Roots & Shoots was focused around the idea that a person will be inspired to start a group and then the many people in that group will inspire others to start there own groups. It's like a seed being planted and overtime evolving into a magnificent powerful tree, which is the family of passionate people all wanting to make a difference within the Roots & Shoots community. This community is essential towards overcoming the many problems within our world today, because while one person can make a difference, a community of people working together towards a common goal can truly change the world.
