Group Description

This group rallies the youth to make change in their communities. We are named “The Wing Initiative”, primarily representing a butterfly’s wings. A butterfly symbolizes transformation and evolution, which are things we want to inspire the youth to instill in our society. Our purpose is to better our community in two main ways: advocating for social justice and helping to improve the environment. Within social justice there are a few main constituents: sexism, racism, unfair labor practices, and ageism. With our group we want to put an emphasis on equality for women; specifically educational equity, equal economic opportunities, ending gender-based violence, and increased female representation. We would also be striving to improve labor laws and increase representation for the youth in politics. Furthermore, Wing Club aims to improve the cleanliness of the environment by recycling, reducing the use of harmful waste, and organizing cleanups. In doing so, we hope to transform our community’s atmosphere into a safe and healthy space, for all living things because social justice and environmental justice are interconnected. Wing Club will inspire students to fight for injustices and the overall betterment of our community.
