| Biography |
My name is Heather Rasmussen. I am an instructional coach in Idaho Falls. I was a classroom teacher for 18 years and now a coach for the last five years. My job is to support teachers through professional development, co-teaching, co-planning, classroom management, basically anything supportive for teachers.
I am currently working at a Temple View Elementary STEM school in Idaho Falls, Idaho. WE were certified as the first STEM school in Idaho two years ago. We are implementing Project Based Learning into our curriculum. It is exciting to see students learning through real world problems and engineering ways to solve those problems. We are currently working on a problem in 6th grade that has to do with nature-deficit disorder. Children are being affected with this disorder as a result of lack of exposure to nature. The causes can range from technology, city and neighborhood covenants, fear of danger, or landscapes being changed from natural landscape to concrete. We are currently working to engineering an outdoor escape for our playground to address the issue at Temple View Elementary School in Idaho Falls. It is great to have the opportunity to work with teachers and students on this project this year.
