“I’ve learned especially after this year, the value that a small moment can have, and the power of connection and compassion for others. Our relationships with people can make a huge difference to their lives, and create a lasting effect on the world.”

History with Roots & Shoots: Two years with Roots & Shoots; RSYC member 2021–2023

Adelaide is from San Diego, California, where she is focused on social justice projects in her community—including advocacy for unhoused populations and hosting drives for her local animal shelter with fellow RSYC member, Yoyo. During her time on the council, and at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, she had to think creatively to organize impactful projects virtually, setting up a positive news social media account to support fellow young advocates who often suffer from climate fatigue and other forms of activism burnout. Adelaide’s favorite Roots & Shoots project has been investigating food waste with other Roots & Shoots members across the country, and recently she has found a passion for teaching young kids at her old elementary school about environmental activism. When not training future Roots & Shoots changemakers, Adelaide plays club field hockey, teaches horseback riding, bakes all things pumpkin, and is even learning how to surf!
