The Problem

My wish for this project is to create additional & more inviting learning spaces for my students, who range from pre-K to 5th grade. The garden at Flynn Elementary School has been in place for at least 10 years & much of the infrastructure is showing that- 2 of 4 picnic tables have collapsed and about half of the wooden garden beds are weathered & falling apart. My goal is to add more surfaces for various science activities, replace eroding & unsafe raised beds, and potentially add additional raised beds.

Our Plan

By receiving this funding, we will be able to add more space for students to comfortably engage in science lessons & more planting areas for hands-on, student-driven learning. This project will also engage the school community. Getting the tables and garden beds build & installed is more than a one person job. I will organize a work day for students, families, teachers, community members, etc. to come & help with this infrastructure update! Once in place, students will then take control of the newly installed garden beds- planning, planting, & maintaining all that in put into the soil.
